Why is my Iphone 3GS doing stuff on its own?!?

Basically, all of a sudden my Iphone 3GS has a mind of its own! It keeps opening apps, wont let me type properly and just starts going crazy! I tried everything from updating software, resetting it but still hasnt changed! Anyone got any ideas? Don't have apple care cover anymore either :(.
